The 2017-2018 Cedar Rapids Community School District calendar has been approved by the Board of Education. Students at all schools will begin class on August 23, 2017. The final day of classes is scheduled for June 1, 2018. Spring break will take place the week of March 12, 2018.  Early dismissals on Fridays will continue to provide professional learning time for staff.

Taylor Elementary School, which has followed a modified year-round calendar for several years, will join the other schools on the traditional calendar. In deciding to move Taylor to the traditional calendar, District leaders reviewed school data and gathered input from Taylor staff and parents.

“As we met and discussed with staff and the Taylor community the supports and further needs we could meet as a building and as a District, it became clear that the traditional calendar was going to be the best choice,” said Val Dolezal, Executive Administrator of Elementary Education.  “We want to thank everyone who provided input in this discussion.”

By aligning with the traditional calendar, Taylor students will now have the opportunity to participate in the seven-week summer Kids on Course University program. Other summer supports will also be offered. District and building staff  will work with Taylor families individually regarding the transition to the traditional calendar at family conferences in February.
