Fifth graders from across the District participated in the annual H.O. Maxey Fun Run/Walk, May 11-12, at Noelridge Park in Cedar Rapids. More than 1,300 students from 21 District elementary schools had the opportunity to join in. They were joined by teachers, parents and volunteers, administrators, and other community members.
The non-competitive event is named in memory of former District physical education teacher and event founder, H.O. Maxey. Held over two days to accommodate all fifth grade students, the activity promotes wellness and encourages running or walking as a leisure activity. It is always held in May as part of National Physical Fitness Month.
