Celebrating Grant Wood's 125th

July 2, 2016 08:00 AM

We are very proud to note that Iowa’s most famous artist Grant Wood (1891 –1942) is a graduate of Cedar Rapids Washington High School. He also taught art at both Jackson and McKinley junior high schools!

Several of Wood’s works were gifted to the District, including “Young Corn” and the Mourner’s Bench. Both of these – as well as many other pieces by Grant Wood - are located at the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art. Other pieces of his work are displayed at Washington High School, McKinley Middle School, and in other District facilities.

As 2016 marks the 125th anniversary year of Wood’s birth, the District is proud to celebrate the life and career of this outstanding District alumnus with this Alumni Spotlight video.
