What is New Teacher Induction?

Teacher induction refers to a comprehensive program that provides “wrap-around” support for beginning teachers.

The support given to our beginning teachers in Cedar Rapids Community Schools aligns with our district goals and is designed to help teachers move their instructional practice forward while working side by side with a full release, Grant Wood AEA i3 Induction Coach.

Through a partnership with the Grant Wood AEA Induction Consortium Network, our District Induction Team’s charge is to build a highly effective system of support through goal setting, impact planning and aligning our work with the New Teacher Center Induction Program Standards.

Each of the 21 districts that are currently part of the GWAEA Induction Consortium have created teams of educators (superintendents, principals, curriculum directors, HR specialists, teachers, coaches) that meet four times each year to learn about high quality induction processes, share resources and ideas, and use the New Teacher Center (NTC) Induction Standards to set goals and determine next steps.

As part of the Grant Wood AEA Induction Consortium Network, Cedar Rapids Community Schools is able to provide beginning teachers with a high level of support.
