The Cedar Rapids Community School District Board of Education will host a community conversation surrounding its equity efforts on Tuesday, Jan. 12. The event will be held from 6-8 p.m. at the African American Museum of Iowa (5512thAvenue SE). Parents and community members are invited to attend to learn more about initiatives and programs currently underway in the District and to share ideas about how those efforts can be strengthened and advanced.
“We want to increase the understanding among local stakeholders about efforts supporting inclusion and diversity in our classrooms and school community,” noted John Laverty, Board President. “It’s important that all voices are heard and that our decision-making is informed by community input.”
The evening will begin with comments from Director Laverty and District leadership regarding the District’s equity plan, followed by a structured opportunity for all participants to share their thoughts about current programming, ideas for additional initiatives, and themes for moving forward.
The event is open to all community members.
