Please be patient and allow yourself extra time in the morning when arriving at school. The intersection of Johnson Avenue and Wiley Blvd will be open as a roundabout. A few general reminders:
Arriving at school: Wiley Blvd is open, and access to the school is still available off Wiley Blvd at the school’s south entrance. Johnson Avenue is open between Jacolyn Drive and Wiley Blvd (coming from the west), but it is closed between the school and Edgewood Road (coming from the east).
Leaving school: The Johnson Avenue exit will be open. Parents can exit the school and turn left onto Johnson, leaving the area through the roundabout. The attached map shows the new intersection and which roads will be open and closed.
Driving the roundabout: The roundabout is single-lane. Drivers should yield to pedestrians first, then wait for a gap in traffic before merging into the circle. Continue through the roundabout until you reach your street. As you exit the roundabout, once again yield to any pedestrians. If you would like to see a video of how roundabouts work, please visit this link.
Walking the roundabout: The roundabout will have painted crosswalks, a raised island for pedestrians to safely stand, and flashing pedestrian lights. A crossing guard or crossing guard volunteer will walk children across one lane of traffic at a time; pedestrians will cross outside of the circle. For an example of how this roundabout will work with pedestrians, please watch a video of a similar roundabout built near a school in Wisconsin.
We appreciate everyone’s patience during this transition!
