The Jefferson High School National Honor Society (NHS) recently hosted a unique panel discussion with community leaders. Panelists were asked to discuss the ways that they have incorporated the pillars of NHS--character, service, leadership, and scholarship--into their personal and professional lives. Participants were: Nancy Kasparek, Regional President of US Bank; Les Garner, President and CEO of Cedar Rapids Community Foundation and Former President of Cornell College; Chuck Peters, CEO of Source Media; and Amanda Styron, co-founder of Seed Here Studio.
“What made this event unique was the fact that the NHS officers facilitated the conversation with these leaders, and the panelists responded to questions prepared by the NHS members,” explained Theresa Fettkether, NHS advisor and Jefferson teacher. “This was a unique opportunity for the student officers, and they worked hard to prepare and organize this event.”
Jefferson NHS officers coordinating the event and leading the panel discussion were Nate Weger, Alexa Terrington, Daniel Nguyen, Brenna Parke, Trey Hill, and Alexandria McPhail.
