JHS Decathlon Team Fourth in Nation


The team competed at the national decathalon championship in Honolulu, Hawaii, April 24-26.

The Jefferson Academic Decathlon Team – representing the State of Iowa - finished 4th in Division II at the national decathlon championship held in Honolulu, Hawaii, April 24-26. The team also placed third in the very competitive Oral Super Quiz category, a first for an Iowa team.

Team members Nate Weger, Zach Denny and Quinn McIlvanie won scholarships through decathlon. Quinn placed second in his division winning four individual medals (Music, Art, Economics and Interview). Hashim Osman won an individual medal in Economics and Chase Muenzenmeyer won a medal in Social Studies. Other team members who attended national competition were Alexandria McPhail, Drake Krambeer, Garrett Bisenius, Noah Kilbury, and Daniel Nguyen. The team is coached by Language Arts teacher and PACT Coordinator Kevin Darrow.
