Kennedy High School recently welcomed a team of educators from Shijiazhuang, Hebei, China to formally launch an academic and cultural partnership. The agreement with China’s Number 25 High School opens the door for each school to engage in Sino-American culture exchanges through the Asia Society Confucius Classroom program.
“This partnership provides Kennedy students with access to resources, content, and ideas that no other area school can offer,” said Jason Kline, Kennedy Principal. “As China continues to rise as a preeminent economic powerhouse, Kennedy students will be capable of connecting with the people and businesses in China.”
The special partnership celebration also included a performance by the Kennedy Dragon Dance Team and an exchange of gifts between the schools.
Kennedy has been a member of the Asia Society since 2010 and is the only Iowa high school in the organization. The school has offered courses in Mandarin Chinese since 2006; some 80 students are currently enrolled.
