Metro High School hosted the Iowa Association of Alternative Education (IAAE) State Conference, April 7-8, at the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel in Cedar Rapids. The theme for the 2016 conference is “Uncommon Approaches to the Common Core.”
“The annual state conference is welcoming more than 150 educators, counselors, and others who work with youth considered high risk,” explained Polk Alternative Education Center teacher and incoming IAAE president Theresa Keeley. “Here, we are reminded of not only the necessity of our work, but the rewards that come with effort and collaboration among many schools, programs and agencies. We are also reminded of the need to continue to create awareness and problem solve for some of our most challenged learners."
In addition to national speakers, conference presenters included students and teachers from Metro and the Iowa BIG program.
