To enroll your child in the Cedar Rapids Community Schools, complete the following steps:


Kindergarten / Preschool Registration:

 

2019 – 2020 School Year

Kindergarten Registration and Preschool Applications will both be ONLINE starting February 25, 2019.

Continue to follow us on our website or through social media for more information.

Your child must be turning 5 on or before September 15, 2019 to enroll in Kindergarten.
Your child must be 3 and/or 4 by September 15, 2019 to enroll in Preschool.

Your child must have turned 3 and/or 4 by September 15, 2018 to be eligible for the 2018-2019 school year.

Applying for Preschool is all ONLINE and easy as 1, 2, 3!

1) Fill out the Preschool Application (Purple button above)
During the application process you will need to provide:

  • A copy of child’s Birth Certificate

  • Family Income Verification

    • 2 recent to qualify for certain programs

2) Notice of Acceptance into the Preschool Program
Families will be notified by email as to whether your child was accepted or put on a waitlist.

3) Complete the District Registration
If accepted, families will be prompted to secure their child’s placement by completing the online District Registration Form which will be LINKED in the notification email mentioned above.


Preparing for Preschool:

  • Once the enrollment is complete, your teacher will contact you to set up a home visit and a start date.
  • A current Immunization Certificate and Health Status Form will need to be completed and turned into the school office before the first day of school.

Alternative Kindergarten Registration:

Alternative Kindergarten Brochure

Thank you for taking an interest in our Alternative Kindergarten Program.

If you are interested in a screening you will need to register your child(ren) for Kindergarten with your home attendance school using our online registration process.

Registration will start February 26th with a link going live at 7am.

You will be asked on the enrollment portion of the registration if you are interested in having your child screened for Alternative Kindergarten. 

A “yes” check will automatically take you to an appointment manager page for you to choose the day, and time for your child’s screening.

To register please print and fill out the forms below and take them to your resident school or bring them to the ELSC at 2500 Edgewood Rd NW, Cedar Rapids.

It is important that we have a copy of your child’s birth certificate.  If you need to obtain another copy, you should contact either of the following:

If your child is enrolled in a Cedar Rapids 4 year old preschool program, their birth certificate will follow them to kindergarten. 

You will also need to provide Proof of Residence:

  • A most current utility bill
     (gas or electric)
  • Lease agreement if you rent
  • Mortgage statement if you own

One of these four items is required for enrollment.

If you do not have these documents at the time of registration, your child’s enrollment will not be completed until the school has copies of ‘said’ forms.

Elementary, Middle and High School Registration Grades 1st - 12th:

The district enrollment form can be completed at the school in your attendance area, or can be accessed by clicking on the link.

The district enrollment form and home language survey form will be available on March 4, 2016 at the registration or you can access the forms by clicking on their link.  

If you are unsure of your attendance area click on school boundaries

A complete immunization record is required by state law.  This must be brought in prior to your student’s first day of school.

A physical is required for participation in athletics in grades 7 through 12.

Once you enroll, your new school will contact your former school to forward student records and files.

A valid birth certificate may be required.

Proof of residency is required. (Policy Procedure 602.4c)

If you have any questions regarding grades 9 thru 12,  please contact 319-558-2000 and ask for High School enrollment.
 


Magnet School Registration:

Magnet schools are neighborhood schools. Therefore, if you reside in a magnet school attendance zone, you may enroll your child(ren) in a magnet school by filling out district enrollment form. The district enrollment form can be completed at the school in your attendance area, or can be accessed by clicking on the link.

If you reside outside of a magnet school attendance zone, you need to enter the magnet school Lottery. The Lottery is open to any student in grades K-8. Out of district students are welcomed to apply for a magnet school program. Placement in the Lottery is based on availability for each grade level. CRCSD magnet schools have a limited number of lottery seats available. Students applying for placement in a magnet program must enter the Lottery by completing an on-line application. The 2018-19 Lottery is currently closed.
