The District joined with the City of Cedar Rapids on Oct. 30 to host a site dedication ceremony for the new Northwest Recreation Center. The facility will be located on the Harrison Elementary School campus. The ceremony celebrated the start of the design phase for the project. The Northwest Recreation Center will replace the Time Check Recreation Center that was demolished due to the 2008 flood. The new recreation center will provide program space for Harrison Elementary School students and Parks and Recreation Department patrons.
"The District is proud to work cooperatively with the City to locate the Northwest Recreation Center at Harrison Elementary School," said Dr. David Benson, Superintendent. "We value this opportunity to work together to promote a high quality of life for all."
“We are thrilled to move forward on replacing the Time Check Recreation Center,” added Sven Leff, Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation Director. “It has been a long process to get to the design phase and we are excited to celebrate with our partner the Cedar Rapids Community School District.” Design will take place through spring 2015 with construction scheduled to start in the summer. The new recreation center is anticipated to open during the summer of 2016.
