    We typically send a communication to families at this point in the year regarding any make-up days/hours required due to weather-related disruptions to the school day. At this point, the time missed only requires us to make up 30 minutes of instructional time. If there are no other delays or cancellations, we will likely add 30 minutes onto an early dismissal Friday or the last day of school which is still scheduled for June 1.

    Nixon 4th and 5th- graders received a special reward for all of their good behavior. The Cedar Rapids River Kings stopped by and treated students to an extended recess Friday afternoon The Indoor Football League (I.F.L) players joined the students in a games of touch football, four square, basketball, and kick ball.

    Career Day at Pierce Elementary

    It was career day at Pierce Elementary School. K-5th students were able to chat with representatives from several different fields. Emergency services were popular as always but students also learned about the Cedar Rapids River Kings and even martial arts. One popular speaker was a “Rocket Scientist” discussing opportunities in S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math).

    A Harlem Globetrotter stopped by Erskine Elementary School Wednesday morning to share a message about bullying. #19 Flip White of the Harlem Globetrotters presented the “T.E.A.M. Up at School” program in a school-wide assembly. The program is designed by the National Campaign to Stop Violence and provides students with bullying solutions through the acronym T.E.A.M. that stands for Talk, Empathize, Ask, and Mobilize.
