School Cancellations

The safety of students and employees is the overriding deciding factor when school in canceled. We are sensitive to the needs of working parents and try to minimize the time students may be home with out supervision. Since school is a safe, supervised setting for children, we try to avoid early dismissals however, if very dangerous weather is imminent and threatens student safety, an early dismissal is called.

School Messenger Notification System

The Cedar Rapids Community School District uses the School Messenger Notification System to provide timely communication to parents and staff members by phone, email and text (optional) regarding school delays and cancellations, District and school emergencies, attendance, and general interest activities. In order to enhance our ability to accurately deliver that information, we invite parents and guardians to create a contact preference profile using School Messenger’s Contact Manager web site.  This allows you to determine how you prefer to be contacted.  It also works like a mailbox, giving you a place to review any messages you may have missed.

E-mail Notification Alerts

The District maintains an e-mail list for those who wish to receive notification when school is dismissed early, or closed for the day. Sign up for e-mail alert list that is maintained for your school.

Due to the greatly increased zealousness of the SPAM Blacklisters and the high levels of SPAM and bogus subscription emails hitting our alert list, we are no longer able to offer direct email subscription. Until we are able to upgrade our program and establish a secure online subscription site, subscription and changes to our “Email Notification” alert lists must be handled through our helpdesk. Please email your changes (including email addresses, names, and the building lists you need added or removed) to helpdesk@cr.k12.ia.us , so whoever is handling this task that day can service your alert list needs.

You will receive a confirmation e-mail. Please follow the confirmation directions provided.

Confirmation Requests will not be sent to “phone” addresses, because of possible format disasters. We will send emails phones detailing the changes we have made for the phones’ address.
