New Principals Named

Picture of Cindy Stock, new principal at Van Buren Elementary School.Cindy Stock has been named principal at Van Buren Elementary School, 2525 29th Street SW. She replaces Nancy Drapeau who retired. Stock earned a Bachelor’s Degree in 1991 from Mount Mercy College and a Master’s Degree from Drake University in 1999. She joined the District in 1994 as a K-1 teacher at Polk Elementary where she also taught third grade. Additionally, Stock taught at Wilson School. She had served as facilitator at Van Buren School for the past six years.

"Having served in the position of facilitator at Van Buren Elementary, I have developed a strong personal commitment to the entire learning community,” said Stock. “I am looking forward to continuing to work with Van Buren students, families, and staff members as we collaboratively meet the learning needs of all present and future
Van Buren Chargers."

Picture of Tashona Marshall, new principal at Johnson Elementary School.Tashona Marshall has been named principal at Johnson Elementary School, 355 18th Street SE. She replaces Craig Saddler who left the District. Marshall previously served as a teacher and then facilitator at McKinley Middle School. She also briefly served as Associate Principal at Wilson School. Marshall has been active in the District’s continuous improvement effort, working with staff to develop professional development opportunities and with students to implement learning strategies.

Marshall earned a Bachelor’s Degree from North Central College in Naperville, Ill., a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership, and is currently enrolled in the Educational Leadership doctoral program at the University of Northern Iowa.

Picture of Sarah Remerowski new associate principal at Roosevelt Middle School.Sarah Remerowski has been named associate principal at Roosevelt Middle School, 300 13th Street NW. Remerowski replaces Gary Hatfield, who is now principal at Taft Middle School.

Remerowski earned her Bachelors Degree in 1994 from the University of Northern Iowa and her Master’s Degree from Drake University in 1999. She taught for eight years at Harding Middle School and two years at McKinley Middle School before being named facilitator at Roosevelt in 2006. At Roosevelt she has served as a Quality Liaison and worked with the leadership team in developing strategies to help reduce discipline issues at the school.

"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to be in this leadership position," noted Remerowski. "I have always believed it is important to show compassion, be proactive, and make connections with students. My plan for the 2008-09 year is to be visible and to focus on the positive things that are taking place
at our school."
