Students and families from Taylor Elementary School gathered on July 23 to reconnect and mark what would have been the first day of classes. The picnic event, held at a Cedar Rapids park, was organized by the Taylor Parent Teacher Association. During the gathering, students enjoyed playing together and families were able to get caught up.
Classes at Taylor, which operates on a year round calendar, had been scheduled to begin on that day. The school was seriously damaged by the June floods, however, and will not open this year.
To provide the most successful learning environment possible, Taylor students and staff members will be placed in other District Schools for the 2008-09 school year. Classes begin for everyone on Aug. 26.
