Seventh graders at Harding Middle School are strengthening their understanding of by working with older students. The Kennedy High School Road Show visited the school with a variety of learning stations to promote science and to offer middle school students the unique opportunity to work with older learners.
The Kennedy Road Show, involving a dozen students and a teacher, features hands-on sessions focused on biology, chemistry, physics environmental science, and geometry.
The Road Show program was developed by Kennedy students in response to their participation in a STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) symposium last fall, according to Joan Steinmetz, Kennedy biology teacher.
“The symposium challenged students to find ways to interest younger students in pursuing STEM courses,” she noted. “Since middle school students tend to look up to the high school students we hope these presentations will encourage them to pursue science courses just like the high school students are doing.”
