The second annual Lace Up for Learning Walk/Run was held May 9 to support the Cedar Rapids Community Schools Foundation. The event took on special significance this year as the Foundation continues to work to provide assistance to flood-affected schools, staff, and students.

In preparation for the walk/run event, students at several schools have been participating regularly in before-school running clubs.

“We have seen an incredible increase in the number of kids who are participating in their school’s running club,” explained Amy Geiger, Foundation Development Director. “Many use the running clubs as a way to train for the Lace Up For Learning. This thrills us as one of our hopes is that this event would spark the formation of running clubs in all of the schools.”
