The District has launched a series of public forums to gather input for its facilities planning and flood recovery. The first of three “Back and Better Get-Togethers” was held June 30.

Modeled after the city’s public participation process, the gatherings are designed to be a convenient opportunity for community members to share feedback and comments. The input will help guide the District in making decisions about the future location of support offices that were damaged in the June 2008 flood. Public feedback ensures that the final plan reflects the identified needs and interests of the entire school community.

The first “Get-Together,” held at Jefferson High School, shared information on the District’s needs, existing building conditions, the forum process, and District's flood recovery effort to date. Visitors toured through a series of color-coded information stations to learn more and provide comments. Board of Education and District staff members were on hand to answer questions and help community members record their feedback.

Support buildings damaged in flood include the Educational Service Center and warehouse facilities. Many support offices are currently located at a modular building campus at Kingston Stadium, constructed last summer by the Army Corp of Engineers. Taylor Elementary School, also damaged in the flood, has been repaired and is not part of this facilities process.

The second “Get-Together” will be held at Kennedy High School on August 27; it will provide information on facility and programming options. A third forum, to provide information on selected options, is set for October 20 at Washington High School.
