Members of the Cedar Rapids Community School District Board of Education will begin hosting small group conversations with community members. "Chalk Talk" sessions will be an opportunity for citizens to personally meet with members of the Board to build and sustain relationships and discuss educational issues.
"The Board would like to make sure community members are fully aware of District business and how decisions are made, " explained Mary Meisterling, Board President. "Sometimes there are perceptions in the community that are not based on fact."
Two or three board members will participate in any given session with each member participating in at least two a year. The first Chalk Talk session is set for Saturday, Nov. 17. Meisterling and fellow Board member Gary Anhalt will be available at the Mount Vernon Road Hy-Vee from 8-9:30 a.m.
"Board members are looking forward to providing these opportunities for interaction with the public," added Meisterling. "I personally hope to gain an understanding of issues or concerns that we may not be aware of."
Dates and locations for additional Chalk Talk sessions will be posted on the District Web site and shared with media as they are scheduled.
