Arriving by bus, car, and on foot, more than 17,000 students returned to District classrooms on August 25 to begin the 2009-10 school year. First-day enrollment was 68 students higher than on opening day in 2008, according to information taken directly from the District’s PowerSchool student data system. A total of 17,030 AK-12 students were in attendance the first day. (This figure does not include preschool students.)
The certified enrollment count will be taken from the student data system on Oct. 1 and verified for state reporting. The AK-12 learners enjoyed an early-dismissal on their first day as staff members participated in professional development meetings during the afternoon.
