Director of Communications
What are the responsibilities of your office or department?
The Community Relations Office includes a communications team that works closely with administration and staff to inform employees and the public about our district's initiatives and goals, disseminate important and timely information to the public, and develop positive relationships between our district and the public. Our office handles all media requests, publishes a monthly e-newsletter as well as other materials, and maintains and creates content for our district's social media platforms. We also oversee the district's Volunteer Services Program.
I proudly served as a Language Arts teacher at CRCSD's Washington High School, also my alma mater (Go Warriors!), for 11 years. I left the classroom for a brief few years to found a non-profit organization and work as a public speaker, freelance writer, voice over artist, storytelling consultant, and teaching artist. I'm thrilled to be back at CRCSD.
Fun Facts about Akwi:
I've always been fascinated by the power of carefully arranged words, carefully curated imagery, and compelling videography to captivate, educate, and inspire an audience. I love helping the community understand the strengths of CRCSD and our commitment to the students and families of our community. This is not only a profession, this is a passion.
I was a swimmer until my shoulders stopped cooperating. Now I hit the bike trails a few times a week, take long walks, and kayak. I also enjoy supporting my 13- and 11-year-old daughters (Go McKinley Bears!) discover their joys as artists, musicians, athletes, and wicked-sharp thinkers. My husband teaches at Jefferson High School and is the head coach of the men's track team as well as the football team (Go JHawks!). We're proud to be a #CRCSDfamily. I continue to write creatively, perform locally, and curate/emcee events for The Hook.
