Lucas Ptacek has been named principal at Franklin Middle School.

Lucas Ptacek has been named principal at Franklin Middle School, effective July 1. He currently serves as assistant principal at Northwest Junior High School in the Iowa City Community Schools.

Ptacek received his bachelor’s degree from Coe College and a master’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa. A graduate of Jefferson High School, he began his education career in the Cedar Rapids Community School District, teaching at both Roosevelt and Harding middle schools.

“Lucas will be an instructional leader for Franklin with his experience in Professional Learning Communities and implementation of the Iowa Core,” said Val Dolezal, Executive Director of Pre-K through 8th grade. “His knowledge of the District and experiences in Iowa City will be a benefit to Franklin and the great work they are doing.”

“I’m excited to be coming to a school community that is known to have such a solid foundation as Franklin,” said Ptacek. “I look forward to collaborating with staff, students, parents, and community members to assist students in becoming 21st century learners.”

Ptacek replaces Shannon Bucknell who is leaving the District.
