Public Input Invited on 2016-17 Calendar Draft

The Cedar Rapids Community School District is inviting input from parents, staff, and community members regarding a draft of the 2016-2017 District calendar. There are many pieces that mirror the 2015-2016 calendar, including start and end dates; the Thanksgiving, Winter, and Spring breaks; and holidays.

The biggest change is in the frequency and time for professional learning. The committee studied the research on Professional Learning Communities and quality professional learning (which indicates that frequent and regular Professional Learning Community (PLC) and professional learning time is optimal), and is recommending a consistent weekly late start to the school day every Wednesday.  The morning time would be used by teachers for professional learning and PLC work.  Supervision at all of the elementary schools would be provided on Wednesday for families that wish to use this accommodation.

As a reference you can see:

The Taylor Elementary School modified year-round calendar will be developed once the main District calendar has been approved.

You may provide input on the 2016-2017 calendar draft until Monday, Jan. 3, 2016, by emailing or by contacting a member of the Calendar Committee directly. Committee members are listed below.
