The District recently partnered with the City of Cedar Rapids to host an informational open house regarding the Northwest Recreation Center. The facility will be built at Harrison Elementary School. Completed floor plans gave event attendees a look at how areas of the center will be used.
The 14,000 square foot recreation center will feature a full size gymnasium and a multi-purpose room that can be divided into two activity spaces. An additional separate activity room, serving kitchen, and game room are also incorporated.
The new recreation center will provide program space for Harrison students and Parks and Recreation Department patrons. Construction is expected to begin in June. The Northwest Recreation Center is scheduled to open during the summer of 2016.
The Northwest Recreation Center will replace the Time Check Recreation Center that was demolished due to the 2008 flood.
