While students enjoy summer break, District workers are busy at the schools completing maintenance and construction projects. The projects are funded either by the SILO (School Infrastructure Local Option tax) or the PPEL (Physical Plant and Equipment Levy) and are completed according to the District’s master facilities plan.
Projects underway this summer include large SILO-funded HVAC projects at Washington High School and Hiawatha Elementary School, as well as smaller PPEL projects at various schools. These include:
- roof replacements,
- restroom upgrades,
- tile and carpet replacement,
- asphalt and parking lot repairs,
- gymnasium floor refinishing,
- campus sidewalks,
- window replacements, and
- tuck pointing and repairs.
Special yard signage mark the work sites so community members can easily tell that a project is underway.
