During his Sept. 15 visit to Roosevelt Middle School, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan had the opportunity to learn more about the District’s teacher leader system, known statewide as Iowa’s Teacher Leadership and Compensation System (TLC). The visit was part of an annual back-to-school bus tour and also provided an opportunity for Duncan to observe a teacher coaching session in addition to participating in the teacher leader panel discussion that also included District teachers and state leaders.
“We thank Secretary Duncan for including Cedar Rapids on his tour and also appreciate his willingness to listen and learn,” noted Dr. Brad Buck, Superintendent. “Iowa’s Teacher Leadership System is a model for others and we’re very proud of the role that the Cedar Rapids District has with this. We believe that this work has and will continue to improve the outcomes for all students.”
