Based on additional survey data from families and staff members, the District has changed the proposed 2016-2017 calendar to include an early dismissal for students each Friday. Teachers will use the 90-minute block of time for professional learning.
The Calendar Committee and administration had considered scheduling a late start each Monday. However, survey results overwhelmingly supported having an early dismissal on Friday afternoons. Early dismissals for professional learning have been part of the District calendar for several years.
“We are grateful to everyone who shared their thoughts with us and are pleased to be able to honor that input in making this adjustment to the calendar,” said Dr. Brad Buck, Superintendent.
A public hearing on the draft proposed calendar will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 22, as part of the regular meeting of the Board of Education. The meeting will be held at the Educational Leadership and Support Center, 2500 Edgewood Road NW.
