The Cedar Rapids Community Schools Foundation will host a welcome reception for Superintendent Dr. Brad Buck on Tuesday, July 28. The event will be held from 3-5 p.m. at the atrium of the Educational Leadership and Support Center, 2500 Edgewood Road NW. Students, parents, staff, and community members are invited to attend.
A Cedar Rapids native, Buck is a 1987 graduate of Jefferson High School. He earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Northern Iowa and both a Master’s Degree and Ph.D. from Iowa State University. He began his career as a middle school science teacher in the Ankeny School District before taking on a number of administrative roles in the Waukee, Hudson, and North Mahaska School Districts. He was serving as superintendent of the Saydel Community School District in 2013 when he was appointed by Iowa Governor Terry Branstad as Director of the Iowa Department of Education. He and his wife, Traci, are the parents of six children.
