The District’s Professional Learning Communities regularly generate programming that enriches student learning. The latest initiative brought together female vocalists from the middle and high school choirs to form the District’s first Women’s Honor Choir. The ensemble rehearsed together before presenting a public concert on Oct. 29. A similar event was introduced for men last year.
“The event is intended to help cultivate interest in current 8th graders so that they continue to sing when they come to high school,” explained Amy Farley, Director of Choirs at Washington High School. “We believe that if 8th graders make a personal connection to the current high school students and teachers, they are more likely to sign up for choir in high school. Our Men’s Festival this past January was highly successful and I still hear my current students talking about how much they enjoyed the event!”
Mount Mercy University hosted the honor choir. Dr. Gerald Kreitzer, Mount Mercy Choral Director, conducted the honor choir, along with the high school directors.
