Cedar Rapids Education Association President
What are the responsibilities of your office or department?
As the President of the Cedar Rapids Education Association (CREA), I listen to and support Cedar Rapids educators. I also work closely with district and building administrators to make sure a teacher voice is always present. My guiding principle is to promote quality public education by placing our students at the center of everything we do while advocating for education professionals.
I have taught Alternative Kindergarten and Kindergarten for 20 years at Coolidge Elementary and Jackson Elementary. I taught one year in Brighton, England through a Fulbright Exchange program. I was the 2013 Iowa Teacher of the Year and worked with the Iowa Department of Education while on leave from the Cedar Rapids School District. When I returned to CRCSD, I stepped into several Teacher Leadership roles; Teacher Quality Liaison, Resolution Team Facilitator and currently I am the Teacher Development Support & Resolution Team Facilitator.
Fun Facts about Tania:
I became a teacher because of the wonderful teachers I had growing up in Cedar Rapids. I stay in Cedar Rapids because I want that tradition to continue in our schools.
I enjoy traveling but don't do that as much now that I have two high school children. My hobby now is attending my kids' sporting events.
