As McKinley Middle School transitions to a STEAM Academy, it is looking to one of its current programs as a model. The building’s PACT (Program For Academic and Creative Talent) offers students many options and greater flexibility in its curriculum.
This approach will open up a wide variety of new and exciting classes for students without being bound by traditional constraints. #OurStories#McKinley
Kristen is in her first year with McKinley and she has been busy getting ready for the transition to a STEAM school.

School Year 2017-18
McKinley Middle School Principal, Jason Martinez shares the school's rich history and how they are building relationships with students.
The transition to middle school is a big step for 6th graders. New this year at McKinley is Empower, a way for 6th-grade students to have more of a family community feeling. Classes are arranged in block style over 90 minutes with the same teacher that builds a positive relationship with students and families.

One mission of the McKinley Empower program is, the classroom is more than the four walls of a school. It takes kids out into the community to learn what is available or brings community members into the 6th-grade classrooms. For this school year, over 100 different community members will have shared with students creating the connections for students to see their purpose in our community.

What Do You Love About McKinley?
"I get warm fuzzies about McKinley, I love my kids here so much, I have been with them for two years, I moved with them from 6th grade up to 7th grade and I am going to be sad when they move up to 8th grade. But I love how much they are dedicated to each other and to me. So I feel like we work really well together."
