#OurStoriesCRCSD - Jefferson High School

School Year - 2018-19
Jefferson's BlendED Academy is a school within a school. Half the day, students take regular classes and the rest of the day inside BlendED. The three classes inside BlendED are much like regular classes, but presented in a flexible, caring, and structured set up to engage 9th and 10th graders with a love of learning.

The fish tanks are an extracurricular learning experience. What I do here is I work on fish projects, helping clean the fish tanks, making fish tanks, building supports for the fish tanks. The upperclassman really taught me how to work with the fish, test the fish tanks water.

Advanced Language Arts 9, and that is also my favorite class, because I love to write. I am like a huge writer. I like the time that I get to work on my assignments. It is important to me because I don’t really liked to be rushed when I work on my homework or assignments. Especially in language arts, I like to get time to write about things because I write a lot. I just like the time to focus on it.

The projects are the best part about BlendED, you get to do something outside of school. This year, I worked on Jefferson’s annual Doggy-dash 5K that they do every year for the Cedar Valley Humane Society. I worked on the website, I helped create the website. Helped with gathering sponsors. I liked to get the word out. I learned to not be afraid when talking to businesses, I thought they were going to reject me, but they welcomed me with open arms and that really helped.

What he loves about Jefferson?
“At Jefferson we have staff and students that look after each other and we do everything to make sure that our students are successful.“
At the beginning of the 2017-18 school year, Jefferson High School began integrating non-traditional students into the student body. District officials wanted to give these students the opportunities that could be found at a larger facility. The result has been a success thanks to the J-Hawks welcoming them and the staff embracing them.
