Director OF Culture and climate Transformation - (Secondary Schools)
What are the responsibilities of your office or department?
Our department exists to ensure that all students and staff members experience a safe and collaborative culture. This includes equitably meeting the social, emotional, behavior and health needs of everyone within our system. CCT recognizes that when foundational needs are met and people have equitable access to resources, opportunities and outcomes, they can truly be the best versions of themselves.
I started my career in education teaching science and hip-hop education in both Houston, Texas and Des Moines, Iowa. Following those experiences I served as an instructional coach for the Des Moines Public Schools. Most recently I served as the associate principal at McKinley STEAM Academy. I am thrilled to now support the students, staff and community of Cedar Rapids as the secondary director for culture and climate transformation.
Fun Facts about Kent: Most of my time is spent with my wife, Abby, and our three daughters - Norah, Noelle, and Nellie. Together we enjoy playing soccer, camping and traveling. We also have a new golden-doodle puppy named Stevie. Personally, I love to watch and play sports, grill and engage in social justice work.
