Dear CRCSD Families,

Due to a significant increase in the COVID-19 community rate of infection, impact on the healthcare systems, as well as CRCSD’s staff absenteeism rate related to illness (impacting all departments, including transportation and schools), CRCSD has applied today for a district-wide waiver to conduct full remote learning for PK-12 students. For all grades and schools, remote learning will begin Thursday, November 12th. In-person instruction would resume on Monday, November 30th, if waiver is granted.

Please note that the decision is pending Iowa Department of Education approval, but we wanted to provide you as much notice as possible. Once we solidify the length of time granted (the district is given 48 hours while a decision is being made, but note that the district has applied for the full 14 days per Iowa Department of Education guidelines), we will notify all families and staff of the duration and subsequent return date.

CRCSD has a unique circumstance as it has planned for the derecho-related reopening of Franklin, McKinley, Jefferson and Washington to occur on November 16. If the 14-day waiver is granted by the state, these building reopenings will not occur until after this time period. More information will be forthcoming.

Additionally, you will be receiving detailed information about updated learning schedules and remote materials directly from your respective school(s).

Please be watching for more information coming from your respective school(s) and the district.

As always, take care.
Noreen Bush
Superintendent
Cedar Rapids Community School District
